Around 5 or 6 months i believe.
I think Dozer was 7 or 8 months when I first used it.
Haus was 6-7 months old. I'm not really sure.
I have never used either on Lucy. The only reason I have considered a choke chain is to help me control her when around other dogs and she gets excited. However at this point I have been able to get that mostly undercontrol with a regular collar. The only time recently where she has gotten upset was when a little poodle off leash came running up behind us during a walk trying to nip at Lucy. I took care of running the dog off and Lucy only fought for a sec or two. For a long time we used a harness but moved away from that because I wanted her to walk behind me during walks and the harness made it hard to correct her at the right moments.
I believe there is no proper age to start using one (except for being too young). I think these types of collars should not be used as training. They should only be used after your doggy has gone through a whole course of OB and still happens to be a puller

I completely agree.
7 months with Dixie-pinch collar
about 6mo. I think. and CC uses a prong collar(I don't know if that is the same as pinch collar or not) I know that chocker collars are a bad thing.
Never started him on one of those. I have tried choke collars before and most dogs will choke themselves continuously on those things. They want to pull through the pressure. I use the Gentle Leader.
I use a harness..never used a choke anything  ..
Never had a reason to..

Good Luck..

Tara<3Boss, just be careful with the G/L. I use one on my 2 dogs Storm only while we wait to see the trainer. Well today a really tiny dog was being walked and Storm went nuts trying to attack it. I sort of grabbed her collar to try to settle her a bit and the snap popped open.

Thank God she didn't get to the dog I grabbed her straight away and held her until the dog was gone before being able to do it back up.

Just something to watch for with any collar that uses the snap into place do-up.

I went and brought a large metal clip that will allow me to link her lead to a regular collar as well.

Well, I haven't ever had the clip pop off and Boss minds the Gentle Leader very well, when another dog comes along he is told to sit stay, and he does (Of course he has not shown any signs of dog-aggression yet, he just wants to play). I wouldn't use it if he pulled on it a lot, I would be concerned that he would injure himself. Some people on here have said they heard it can cause spinal injuries.
