So I was worried about my AB's weight so I took him to the vet who said to put him on some good puppy food for large breeds. So i went to the pet store and they recommended (like my vet did) Hill's Science Diet for large breed puppies. I bought a huuge bag coz i thought we'll go thru it. and not only does nelson not eat it, but after searching thru this forum, i've found out that its crap food.

they did say at the petstore that science diet has a money back guarantee. so maybe i'll return it saying that my dog won't eat it and get something better.

what can u suggest?

what about Eukanuba? is that good? its supposed to be good, but then again so is science diet.

and any suggestions on how to get nelson to eat his food?

Eukanuba is just as bad as Science Diet. Check out the sticky at the top of this forum for food suggestions and their "ratings": http://www.bulldogbreeds.com/discuss/viewtopic.php?t=642

Look for a food that doesn't contain by-products, "meat and bone meal," corn products, wheat, soy. The first ingredient should be a meat-based protein, and ideally, 3 out of the first 5 ingredients should be meat.

Good brands include:
Innova and California Natural (both made by Natura)
Wellness
Cannidae
Timberwolf
Natural Balance
Solid Gold
Diamond (the Lamb Meal and Rice and Beef Meal and Rice only...the other forumulas aren't as good)
Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul
Merrick
Kirkland
Nutro (not that great, but much better than Science Diet and Eukanuba)

Yay for refunds!!! Science Diet is definitely overpriced here. I think it's like $30 for a 30lb. bag when you can get a much better quality food for about the same price or a little more. Bella eats Diamond Lamb Meal and Rice, and her food is only $25 for a 40lb. bag.

i'm in australia so its AU80. it was a really big bag. but anyways gonna get a refund, thanks i'll look into whether diamond is avail here in aust. thats the prob that the food that you guys have on the list may only be avail in the states so its a little difficult for me to track them down here because most vets and petstores sell either hills or eukanuba. i'll get my mulla back and do some more hunting! :D
