I got a call from my mom this morning about our boxer Casey. Casey is 14 years old and has cancer. She had a cancerous tumor removed from her leg about 4 years ago. It came back earlier this year but my mom opted not to operate this time due to her age and quality of life. Well, Casey hasn't been eating lately and has been trying to avoid us.
She has a real hard time walking and has frequent accidents in the house. She went out last night for her last potty before bed and wouldn't come back in. She layed under the bushes and wouldn't budge. Since Casey is about 85 lbs my mom couldn't pick her up (mom's nursing a knee operation). She had to leave her out there last night and this morning she still won't get up. Don't dogs usually do this when it's 'time'? My mom called the vet and we're bringing her there later today when I get home from work.
If we do put her down, I don't think I can be in the room when they do it.
