I'm confused about food. My dog came to me as a rescue that I adopted and her foster person put her on Instinct food. She had her on the rabbit variety. She only gave me one days worth of food and told me if I could switch to the other flavors with no problem. She never really had a solid stool. I was being patient, since she had gone through a lot of changes. Maybe one here or there. I bought the chicken variety. Could she be allergic to chicken? I think there is a fish variety. What about other no grain foods?? I know my vet will not have good info on the diet question. I just bought a big bag of the chicken variety again, it was $10 off. I may return or exchange it. My vet wants to see her stool and test it. My Lucie is having pee and poop issues inside the house. That is another post all together. It's getting a little better after 3 weeks.

Thank you for any info!!

How much are you feeding her? Are you feeding the kibble or the canned? How long have you had her? Was she house broken before you got her? Have you had her tested for worms etc? I haven't heard of that food brand before. I'm sure someone will have some advice for you.

Edit, I was reading the info on the kibble and I'm not really sure why it would have this in the food? :? Montmorillonite Clay :dontknow:

Lucie and Instinct Food

I have had Lucie for three weeks. I have her on one cup in the morning and one in the evening. She had been switched to this food about 2 weeks before I got her. The rescue group says she only had one or two accidents of pee in the house. She thought it was behavioral. She is pretty alpha and my previous dog did have some urine issues with incontinance after being spayed. So, I do possibly have smells in the carpet. The previous owner did not admit to any problems of housetraining when she was turned in to them. I did take her urine to the vet. They found a trace amount of blood. We have her on an anitbiotic. I'm getting ready to take stool in as well. It's usually the consistancy of soft serve. A behaviorist and trainer contacted me and told me to tether her to me in the house for a week or put her in her crate when not able to tether her. I take her out about every 2 hours. When she goes outside, in addition to praising her, I am to stay outside for 10 extra minutes. I need to go out and get a bell for her to ring when she wants to go outside. This may help for next week, when she is off the tether. And, oh, by the way, her flautulence is bad.
I guess Instinct is kind of new. Prarie makes it and it is grain free. My parent's shepherd is on Prarie.
