I've had my Staffie puppy for two weeks now. Last week I noticed what appears to be a large lump under his front legs. On investigation it just feels like his rib cage but when you look at him it just looks like a large lump. We took him to the vet last week just to get a check up and she said he was a healthy dog. I didn't notice it until the next day and my boyfriend says it has always been there, its just I didn't notice it before. He seems very happy and it doesn't seem to bother him, I just wondered if this is normal. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

not sure I'm not real good on this stuff. Just bumping it up for someone who might know.

But if you are truely worried about it, maybe try another vet? Parents intution is the greatest gift ever!

Maybe

I have 2 mixed staffies, and mine had something like that and yes it was their ribs If they stood a certain way and you looked it looked like a lump because it kinda cause the fur to stick out a little too but it was their rib cage and nothing to worry about.
If you feel it and it feels like the ribs then thats what it is. Mine lost it when they filled up a little and grew they are 5 months now and it is gone. I did the same thing when I first saw it too what the heck is that it scared me. But mine have been checked by vet and all is well. it is common

Thanks. You've definitely put my mind at rest. Vinnie is due another visit to the vet next week for his second lot of jabs so I'll ask them to check it out again anyway. He is getting more and more cheeky each day so I'm thinking he must be fine.

I'm sure the pup is fine but it always good to check it out too. But I was so worried when I seen it happen too was my first time with that so I keep asking my vet each visit are you sure its his ribs and he would laugh and tell me yes they are nice and healhty not to worry. I'm glad it helped ease your mind Good Luck with him. Enjoy him they grow really fast

I just saw this post. I had the same concern with my pup when he was little. The vet told me it was his rib, kinda like a "floater". It will adhere itself to the rest of them and look more normal as he grows. Nothing to worry about. :)
