So tonight, Dennis gets home from work, and Justice had really bad diarrhea. This is the 3rd time this month. He cleaned out her kennel, and put her outside. We didn't feed her supper and gave her fresh water. Then we went out for a bit. In the 2 hours we were gone, she had pooed in her kennel again. It's really runny, nothing solid. She hasn't gotten into anything that could have made her sick that we know of. We keep our trash can in a closet so she can't get into that, our counters are kept clear of food. All of our cleaning products are in closets or cabinets that latch and are hard to open. We also haven't given her any toys that she could tear up and swallow pieces of. We are going to withhold her food for 24 hours and then give her some boiled rice and chicken.

The thing that has me really concerned is the amount of shedding she's doing. When Dennis pulled her kennel out to clean it, there was a ring of her fur all the way around the kennel. It was so much fur, that it looked like the carpet was stained with urine(due to her color). This had to have happened recently, as I just vacuumed the downstairs a week and a half ago(we haven't spent much time in the basement lately.) She's been kind of lethargic lately, and with her looking as if she's losing weight, and now her fur, I'm really concerned.

Any ideas as to what this could be? She's got a vet appt in less than a week. I'm really hoping it's nothing serious. Dennis is so upset with everything(everything being her vomiting, diarrhea, destructiveness, housebreaking, lack of training that he NEVER helps with, etc.), that he's wanting to go back to having just Haus. :( It has me really upset because I love Justice to pieces and don't want to give her up, but he brought up something that got me thinking. The rescue we got her from has never called to check on her, verified that we've taken her to the vet, done a home check or anything. He thinks they knew she had a pre-existing condition and didn't tell us. I think he's crazy, but maybe he's right? So please, if anyone has any ideas, I would really appreciate it. It would save my sanity.

A lot of rescues don't check into anything, mine didn't either. All I can suggest is taking her to the vet to see what might be causing her diarrhea and hairloss. If you look back to the place she came from, it's no wonder she has issues, that was the sickest place I've ever seen. I'm wishing you luck, keep us posted.

Justice is a very pretty girl.
How long have you had her?
The chicken and rice should keep her eating if she stops eating I would get her in to see the vet sooner if you can.
Have you changed her food recently? that might cause diarrhea or she might have eaten a weed out side
Hope she feels better soon

From Buster and I.I can only imagine what you are going through and how stressed you guys are.
You have three dogs and thats enough to pull your hair out let alone one who has the craps, weight loss and loss of hair.
My god, thats enough to make anyone go nutty.Go to the vet get her checked out and hopefully you will have answers soon and all this will just be a nightmare of the past.I sure hope it all works out.Give some pepto to help settle her belly.Cheese will help as well.Good luck

Well, we withheld food, and had her sleep in her kennel last night. I come downstairs to her kennel being full of diarrhea again. It had to have happened after 5 am last night and before 8:15 this morning. The reason I know after 5 am, is because we had to have the gas company come out last night. We had our whole house fan on, and the next thing I know, my stairwell smelled like gas! So at 2 am, I called the gas company and they said they'd have someone out within the hour. No big deal, even though I had to work at 8:45 am. Well, 3:30 rolls around, and still no one. I called back, and find out they had to get someone from Morris, IL and that he'd be there within another hour. He finally gets to my house at 4:30 am, and starts looking around. No gas leak, so we don't know what caused the odor. :(

Anyway, back to Justice. I remember reading somewhere that canned pumpkin is good for upset tummies. Is that right or am I imagining things? I just want her to be ok....

Harley lost much of her fur after I brought her home. The vet did tests up the yin-yang & found nothing. I switched her to lamb & rice formula & she was OK after that.
Dakota is fed Iams & if Harley gets into it, out comes the fur. She did have some loose stoll, but not like Justice's.

I'm sorry for you. Hope it gets resolved soon.

Justice's food has not changed since we got her. She and Haus are both fed Diamond Lamb and Rice. They are fed from stainless steel bowls. I just don't understand, and want her to be well again. I'm ready to pull my hair out. I need a vacation..... :(

Oh that sucks. Sorry for the useless post.
Never a useless post! Others might be having the same problem, and it could have happened. Magnus does not eat the same as Haus and Justice, but his food is kept behind a closed door. I'm not frustrated with anyone, just with everything that's been going on.

So sorry to hear Justice is sick. Ther are so mant things that could cause the symptoms you describe. Allergies could certainly do it. Allergies to what is the hard question.

I know how you and Dennis must feel. It's always hard when you add another pet to your home, especially when things don't go perfectly. You always think "It was so much easier when I only had one....two....three....etc" Just keep in mind that this isn't her fault. She's not trying to make your lives miserable. She wants to be happy too.

Good luck with her.

I think I'd have the vet do bloodwork. If it was just some hair loss it would be one thing but she could be having some endocrine issues or something else metabolic going on, that's causing the vomiting and hair loss. Describe all her symptoms to the vet and have them do a blood panel on her.

Sorry to hear Justice is ill. I know how stressfull the kennel poops can be just by themselves without the other issues. Could the shedding be stress related to the potty issues? I know Mo got real mental when he had his diarhrea crate incident.

My rescue did not contact me either, although the girl was in touch with my gf.

Sounds like you are just in one of those spells where everything goes wrong at once. Hang in there, it will get better. Good luck at the vet.

Kaopectate would be good for her at this point. Canned pumpkin can work, don't get the kind with spices, make sure it is just pumpkin. But I'd be for giving her some Kaopectate or Pepto Bismol.

How much Pepto? I have that at home. And would it be a bad idea to give her boiled chicken and rice? She hasn't had food since yesterday morning, and with her being so thin, I don't want to withhold food. :(

I'm not sure on the dosage of Pepto...hopefully somoene else can answer that.

As far as feeding her, I would wait until she has gone AT LEAST 12 hours with NO diarrhea, and then give her a small amount of food. Build back up to a normal sized feeding for her, don't do it all at once. NOTHING irriatets the intestinal tract more than large quantities of food, no matter how bland the food is.

Cannon could be right about the hair loss...that may be a stress reaction to not feeling well and soiling her kennel. If Justice didn't have the greatest start in life (ie: neglect by her previous owners), then her immune system may be more susceptible to viruses, particulalry gastrointestinal viruses, sinc ethey're the most easily spread. You may also want to talk to your vet about boosting her immune system with some supplements.

I hope she's feeling better soon. You may want to call the vet and give them a head's up about the diarrhea...they may be able to give you some advice over the phone or they may want a stool sample brought in the day of her appt.

Thanks for those links! I will be getting a pill cutter and some pepto tablets. I think those will be easier than liquid. Plus, I have maximum strength at home, and it says to use regular.

I've come to the conclusion that I need a live in vet.

So sorry to hear she's still feeling bad..poor girl, been thru alot hasn't she? :(

Orson sheds like that too and he's on good food and fish oil and everytime i clean
(weekly) behind his bed there is a line of fur, looks like so much but i think some of these
bullies just shed alot more than others. I brush him often too.
If it was just shedding i'd say not to worry but the diareaha is concerning.

Has she been checked for worms since you got her? Could have some intestinal worms.
The fact that she keeps having diareaha is concerning, not just your average stomach bug
that goes away in a day.

Sure hope your vet can figure it out and she gets better!
