last pics of Nala

I took some pics of Nala before she goes to her new home. They asked to see updated pics. I'm thinking she will probably go next weekend. Maybe sooner if I can get her in tomorrow for her booster shot.

These pics were extremely difficult to get. She was running away from me in all of them, so I put her on a leash. She still looks like she fears her life, but this was the best I could do. She just doesn't like the camera the way Heaven and Koa do!

You can't see her big floppy ears because she tucks them when she's nervous. Ah well... I hope her new owners like these!

PS: I know she looks really skinny, but I feed her a minimum of 4 cups per day (a lot for a puppy) but she doesn't gain weight. The vet just says she's a slow gainer.

You're right - this will be my last post in this thread.
But just to clarify - everyone has problems, not everyone posts in great detail however like Trina does.
There's no excuse for letting a dog look like this however.
None.
People have given Trina suggestions and continue to do so and they all fall on deaf ears. That, to me, doesn't wash.
So, good luck little Nala, hopefully your next option will pan out for you...
I don't "let" Nala look like this. She is given a warm bed with plenty of high quality food in her tummy, and LOTS of hugs & kisses. Oh poor, poor Nala, she's so neglected! Just LOOK at how miserable she is in my home!!! Oh the HORROR!

She looks terrible in the pics yesterday because she was nervous, and I can't make her NOT nervous, I'm sorry. She is thin because she is so nervous that she INHALES her food, I swear that girl doesn't chew... then she vomits. I take care of her very well, but she has issues that I cannot mend.

Yup, everyone has problems. I have shared some of mine with my friends here. Not everyone shares that much of their lives here. I respect that. I also thank my lucky stars I have met such wonderful people on here that allow to me moan and groan when I need to.

No suggestions fell on deaf ears. I think what you really mean to say is, you tried to forcefeed "your way," and I rejected your suggestions because they weren't right for me. I discovered what was best for Nala, and that meant re-homing her. Sorry that doesn't "wash" for you.
Don't worry about it! Your doing right by Nala! :D NO NEED TO EXPLAIN YOURSELF to people WHO DONT GET IT! :D

Ok you two, back to your corners..

:p

I'll admit I was taken aback by the photos (as i'm sure the adopters were), but i doubt Trina is doing anything wrong.
have you tried to feed Nala 3-4 times a day? she might eat a little better, Ps she looks great in the pic with heaven! you should have showed that one!
Well she never received those pics anyway, her e-mail must have filtered it out because of the attachments. I'll get better pics of her today after her bath, and post them. I still wanna catch a video of her too, I want to show you how she eats. I'm crazy busy today though... just got back from the doctor, then fence people are coming out at 2:30, have to get to the hospital for an x-ray, drop off my FMLA forms, MAYBE apply for a new position(!!)... then Nala has an appointment at 3:15. So I'll get to it sometime today, otherwise tomorrow.

ETA: Also even if her adopters HAD seen the photos, they wouldn't be taken aback. I already explained to them that she is not thriving or eating well, and explained her fearfulness and nervousness around my other dogs. I explained how Koa has been mean to her, and snaps at her, so she's kept separate and guards her food. They know all the issues, I explained them one by one, and her entire rescue story... then asked, "so are you still interested." And she vehemently said YES. Trust me, I'm not going to spring any surprises on people just so they can be unhappy and hand her right back or dump her off somewhere. I am screening for homes that are willing to take on special needs. Bully breed experience is a MUST. So I am fairly confident she will find a good home that is prepared for her problems.

I sort of stumbled upon this late but I wanted to say that Rescue Remedy works really well. I give it to Heidi before we go to the vet because she gets a little antsy there. I also give it to the dogs on 4rth of July for the noise and fireworks. It is not something that will cure weak nerves or tempermental problems. I'm not sure there there is anything that can cure those problems. I would definitly give it a try though to see if you could get her to calm down enough to keep some food in. She definitly looks better in the action shots then the close ups. It will be really hard to find someone willing to take on a project like Nala. Giving her to a rescue would be best so they could really evaluate her temperment. It may be horrible of me to say, but honestly, if I owned a dog that was really suffering mentally, I think I would put them down. I'm probably a bit extreme, but I just don't think it's humane to let them suffer that way. That being said, I would give a shot and really work at it every day to try and get some improvement before I made that decision. All we have to go off of is pictures and your description of Nala, so obviously, I'm not suggesting that Nala be put down. She needs a chance to try and at least work through it. Don't beat yourself up over the situation, you definitly gave her a warm, happy home. Unfortionatly, she is one of those "special needs" dogs that needs more than that.

P.S. I hope you are feeling better soon. I don't know how you manage to stay sane with a son, 3 dogs, and a full time job!

Nala looks great in that picture with Heaven, she looks healthy and not under weight (in my opinion).

I guess the family that was interested is not taking her anymore and now you plan to put her back in her rescue? Why not keep Nala? I am assuming because Heaven and Koa are too much as it is (considering all your injuries ). Nala seems really happy with Heaven in the picture. The first group of pictures you posted werent even that bad!!! She just looked a little nervous. She didnt look starved or underfed, just a little on the thin side. I just hope Nala ends up in a good home if she goes back to the rescue![-o< Keep us posted.

I swear if I lived close I would adopt her!
One woman and three young pitbulls.

Hmmmmmm
Thanks guys. As for putting her down, I have contemplated, and have sought advice privately from many members here. But after today, I don't think that will be necessary. Will update in a separate thread when I have more time. Gotta run to my next appointment.

I'm no Vet. but i can tell that dog is not neglected, why is msvette acting like Nala is put on a chain and left outside. Some dogs do not put on weight that well, especially nervous ones. My brother's Golden Retriever looks just as skinny as that dog and is definately fed enough, just a skinny dog.

Thanks, bigut!

Well I just heard back from Nala's new owners... I sent her the pics with another explanation about her weight, and they still want her. She just said, "no problem, we'll fix that." She also said, "don't worry, I'll keep you updated with lots of pictures."
YAY YAY YAY! :hello1:

:D I'm so happy for Nala! :D
Oh, she's at her new home already?

Congrats for her!
No, not yet. I'm taking her there this weekend!
Glad her potential home still wants her...warts and all!

She looks great in that group shot! :D

As far as the vomiting goes...have you tried 4 or more small meals a day?

No, usually just 2, since I am gone for 13 hrs. I usually feed her before I go to work, and when I get home. On my days off, I try feeding her 3 times a day. I wonder if she'd do better on moist food. She's vomiting because she's eating so fast that she doesn't chew. Then she starts choking and snorting. It's quite a spectacle. At least if she was eating canned dog food, it wouldn't matter that she doesn't chew.

Get this, her new owners just e-mailed me and asked what food Nala is on so they can keep her on the same food since she might still have housebreaking issues. How awesome is that... I love these people!
