Military Boot Camp Question

Ok, so I work for the government, and work across the street from MCRD (Marine Corp Recruit Depot). Occasionally we will watch the young hotties do their morning jog. This morning we watched them all run by, and at the end was this little scraggly recruit dropping further and further behind.

At one point he stopped and barfed. I figured that would have warranted a response of screaming by the drill sargeants, but instead, they picked him up and drove him off.

WTF? Didn't we used to be tougher on our men and women that we were preparing to go into war?

Anyone that has been through boot camp KNOW why they would have picked him up? I would have figured they would have forced him to finish then just take him to medical to hydrate with fluids and IVs.

I'm Air Force.. Aim High!! lol..
I hope I do well.. I'm battling some Flu symptoms too, so I haven't ran since Tuesday..
Back in the day, you could fail like 2 or 3 times, and they just send you to a class.. Now, the commander can take administrative action after your first failure.. You can even do well on the run, the push-ups, and the sit-ups, but if you waist is barely over the max, you FAIL.. I think my main concern will be the push-ups this year.. I may do fine, but I'm just worried about how my wrist is gonna hold up after not doing anything with it for so long..

I don't think they can kick them out right away but they have to pass their PT.
In a 'round about way' they could kick them out right away.. Classify it as being 'not physically fit'..
I know when I first came in and went through BMT, we had quite a few people that weren't 'physically fit' but after weeks of training, they became solid enough..
Now, things/times have changed.. Now we have to look at budgets and such.. Not much money to spend on the military, so the military's hands are tied.. If they can't afford to keep as many people in, they'll weed out the ones that don't meet the highest standards.. And that could be for a variety of reasons.. And now that we're in a war, where us military folks must be in top physical conditioning, the ones who are not meeting the standards are sent packing..

Speaking of which, my PT test is next Wednesday.. WISH ME LUCK!!!!! I was put on a profile for a couple months due to a wrist injury where I couldn't do any pushups.. I couldn't lift weights either.. I was not to lift more than 15lbs.. So with very, very little time to prepare myself, I have to pass my test in less than a week..

What always makes me giggle are the amount of CHUNKS in the Navy. Good luck to you and your test, you'll pass with flying colors!
Hey! My uncles are in the Navy! LOL but they are chunky

My husband was in the Navy. I'm just amazed at how large some of these individuals are, and are ALLOWED to be at that weight.

While my sister was in boot camp, they held a girl back a couple of times for not being able to do the PT, and her attitude. They eventually discharged her, and she can't rejoin any branch.

My sister has a barfing story too. They made her drink 3 full glasses of water before eating every meal. One day she wasn't feeling well, and told her superior officer she couldnt' finish her water. The SO told her to drink it anyway. She ended up getting sick from it, but still had to do her PT for the day.

However, now that she's out of basic, they let her out of PT when she had her Mirena put in. But only for 1 day.

Grody! That's some nasty stuff! Hee hee!

I do know that they aren't allowed to be as harsh as they once were with the new recruits. But as far as picking him up and driving him off I have know idea why they would do that :?
I know! I was just asking my husband and he said no run they ever did while in training for the Navy would have made someone puke. And I've seen these guys on their runs, and they don't seem to be intense at all. Must be a weak recruit. Can they kick someone out for not being strong and ready?
My cousin's one goal in life was to be career military - he was 18 - in awesome health - went to basic - started getting migraines from the heat and physical workouts - they kicked him out and told him he can never be in the military because of it.

I can see that happening. You're an ineffective soldier if you can't be out in the heat doing physical work. I would have been given the big ol' no from my knees had I tried going in.
