Hi there, I have a 9 week old AB. I thought it was best to get him walking right away at an early age but I'm reading on here not to do much until a year old? I don't understand. We are still working on leash manners, he's doing very well. The other day I took him on a trail where no one was around and I took his leash off. He did amazing, stayed right with me and when I stopped he sits. I was impressed, we did .84 of a mile. Is this too much? I'd eventually like a hiking partner but don't want to hurt him in any way. Thank you for advice.

During the first year you have to be careful of their developing joints, ligaments, bones, and muscles. Little potty walks is all they need for the first year.
Nothing long or intensive. Otherwise your pup could have long term issues in these areas as he gets bigger.
