took Bubba to the vet over the weekend and I asked her what she recommended for his coat and she sold me a bottle of Omega 3 Fatty Acid Liquid. She says it's good for his joints and coat. You folks ever use this?

1 pump a day in his dog food.

I give a high quality fish oil in gelcap form to get the omega6/omega3 ratio up to where it should be (most dog foods, even premium foods, are lacking in omega3 fatty acids while high in omega6). Flax seed oil is also very good - maybe even better. This ratio should be between 5:1 and 10:1 omega6:eek:mega3.

If this ratio is already balanced in your food (some foods are), you should give both omega3 and omega6 as too much of one or the other can cause some skin problems. Or so I've read.

Edit: Heh...this reminded me that I'd not checked the new food I'm feeding. Always had to give fish oil with the Evo. The NV is perfect @ 5.23:1. I love this kibble more every day.

I use fish oil. I never buy supplements from the vet because they are usually overpriced. A quality fish oil has all the omegas a dog needs.

Here's the one I use. It's a very good one.

Thanks for the input folks. I think my vet treats me fairly well as far as prices go. She sold me an Omega 16 oz. pump bottle for 17.00 which looks to be in line when you add in shipping. He isn't having any skin or coat issues now but like everyone else, I was looking for something extra that would help him live healthier.

thanks again.

I use Missing Link supplement with Bella. I buy it online, but I saw that the Petco in my town sells it now. (It's cheaper to buy it on www.petvetdirect.com, though!) Here is the list of ingredients in Missing Link:

Flax Seed, Blackstrap Molasses, Rice Bran, Primary Dried Yeast, Sunflower Seed, Freeze Dried Liver, Dehydrated Alfalfa, Dried Carrot, Freeze Dried Bone, Dried Fish Meal, Freeze Dried Oyster, Sprouted Green Barley, Dried Kelp, Lecithin, Garlic and Yucca Schidigera Extract.
