you can tell im a new dog owner..
we've been giving Patch lamb off-cuts and bones recently... and he LOVES them!
NOTHING can distract him from them!
problem is..... he eats the whole thing, including the bone!
should i be allowing him to do this?
he loves chewing on the bone, and that's fine... but he ends up eating the whole thing!!!!!!!!!!!

IS THIS NORMAL?
he's 4 months old.

Bones are fine if they are not cooked. As long as you watch the pup he should be cool with them :)
Cooked bones can splinter and get stuck in his intestines..All chew toys carry some risks in one way or another..Raw hides can create a blockage in his bowels.........I think it is a personal preference type thing...I give my dog nylabones, Knucklebones, raw hides....I watch her very close when she has a chew toy bc they all carry there own dangers......I let her have bones now but once she is able to break them I am taking them away...A lot of people on here give their dogs raw bones ...Look around on here there are tons of posts about chews get a feel for what you want to do.........

I think you have a healthy boy and quite cute I might add...but all of them could eat through a brick wall if the notion struck them
Roxy's has raw bones now and again. Got her a really big bone from the butchers and normally she spends hours chewing at them....but this one is bigger then her head and she won't touch it lol she just guards it from the cat.....

Funny, my dog roxy does the same thing! Most of the time she won't touch her bone until Cleo starts it for her.

To answer the question, as long as the bones are raw and you are keeping an eye on him you should be fine. Very cute pup!
what about lamb chops... we bought him lamb cut offs last week and some of them are like chops.
he eats the whole thing... he LOVES them.
is this dangerous?
also, what about all the fat... my husband laughs at me when i tell him i want to trim the fat off.
He says he's a dog and i shouldn't be so stupid!!

is the fat bad for him

p.s. thanks.... we think he's cute too!!!

Pork fat and pork are not good for a dog. But lamb is cool, just be the same as us 'a lil' bit of everything' wont do him any harm.

Just to check, you are giving them to him uncooked ?

Why is pork a problem? I was totally unaware of that.
I know with Roxy too much goes straight threw her and makes her really feel ill.
firstly, can I just say that Roxy is absolutely gorgeous... what a stunningly beautiful dog!

secondly, yes, the lamb off-cuts are all raw. I know not to give cooked bones.

He loves them.

I think i'm getting jealous of the bones because he'd rather take one away, hide and chew on it, than to spend time with me and my husband!!!!
hehehe
:)

I am a little worried about the fat though... should i be trimming the off-cuts?

If he is having them regular, then I would trim some of the fat :) and thank you for the compliments on Roxy, she says thank you :love5:

I sometimes hold the bones whilst Roxy chews on them, teaches them to trust you and reminds them that u are alpha.
