So my pup is 8 months old and we got him a week ago, the first few days he wasn't too bad but now he seems to be marking in the house. He goes in his crate no problem, and won't pee or poo all night, but randomly he'll pee on the couch infront of us, and I've even caught him lifting his leg to pee on or in his crate. I'm curious if anyone's had any experience with this as well. Once we get him neutered will this help? Also, does anyone have any tips on how to tell him "NO" when he goes inside? Thanks!

Your pup is in a new home and is trying to emotionally adjust. His bladder muscles may still be developing
and so may need to be let out a little more often. Never let him out of the crate without taking him outside.
He will definately pee somewhere in the house since he is not trained yet to go outside. This brings me to my next point.

You need to make a consious effort to put your dog on a schedule for bathroom
breaks, eating and exercise. Always take your dog out as soon as he wakes up in the
morning, after he eats, and when he comes out of the crate and before he goes to
bed. A good walk for bathroom break and exercise will make him feel better and keep
him calmer. Let us know how it is going. In the meantime read

Okay thankyou very much! We're not mad at the peeing in the house, he's come so far in a week already! No problems with going in his crate, he doesn't bark, and he's already built the confidence to go up AND DOWN the stairs. Were amazed at how well he's been adjusting.

It took us a bit to get bear to stop p a,d poo in the house. Lots of no and bad dog when he goes in the house n he goes in the crate for a bit. When we go outside and he does his business I say good boy you go pp or poo which ever. He then learns the words. It has taken weeks but he now doesn't go inside much. He also would p in front of me then go to the door. I think I was not recognizing his needing to go . good luck

Been there, done that

hey i had the same problems with Bruno when he was nearly two to three months old, i tried walking him regularly at scheduled times of the day but he just couldn't cope up.

So finally i decided to take him to a professional, i live in middlesex NJ where i found a great place named Camp Bow Wow where they have got three levels of dog training at very reasonable prices. The training not only solved the problem but also helped him to become calmer and more obedient.

At 8 months old he should be pretty much housebroken by now.
Is he intact? It might be a marking thing if he is.
You can put a belly band on him when he is in the house which will help break the marking habit. You can find them at petstores and amazon.

And keep working on the routines and structure.
