i own a 5 month old all white purebred male pit i dont know that much about dogs even though all my cuzins had pits growing up. i got him because my sis had to go to college and she left him with me i tried taking him to puppy training school like at petsmart but when we were theyre all he did was try to fight with the other pups. i try to teach him to sit and stay but all he does is try to jump on me i show him that i will give him a trea if he does the command right but he still doesnt listen what should i do he never listens and right now i dont have time to baby him im thinking about getting him euthanized but i dont really want that to happen i was hoping if anyone would help give me some tips on

how to teach him to:

sit
stay
come here
and protecet the house

i know they say all dogs are teritorial but theirs a difference between a bark and a bite

i remember bout last year i saw these 7 kids( around 12-16) approach a female pit and she was barking at them but one of them said just let her sniff you she did she started licking the guy and the lead kid told the other one alright break the lock i wanted to step in and say get the f out but it wasnt any of my buznezz they broke the chain and took the dog i m probally guessing they sold it

so thats why i want to teach it to protect my house if i m gonig to keep it

also if i keep it i was hoping to get him a little companion maybe a female pit which type should i get because i heard dogs get lonely and fall into depression

pitbulls are not human aggressive and are not gaurd dogs (contrary to popular belief and media).

You will have a difficult time to train this dog to not trust strangers, and honestly I don't think you'd want to go there. Lifelong liability and commitment unless you are 100% devoted to PP work, obedience and proper handling of the dog.

 Get that pup a trainer, Petsmart IMO is only good for submissive dogs.If you can not train one dog do not get a second one, they will run all over you. I am not trying to be a jerk but you have to get a handle on this dog...I see a couple of problems here
1 It sounds like your dog needs exercise, when they hiper they are not going to listen.
2A rookie should not PP train their dogs, that is a serious sport and should be done with the help of an expert.(I am a rookie too I am not trying to point my almighty finger, I am just trying to help you)
3 Pitbulls are human friendly, they are NOT good guard dogs

Tips: when you see your dog sit say good sit to enforce the work that you have done..... To teach the sit position let him sniff the treat, say "Sit" and pull the treat slowly above his head his body will fall into a sit as soon as his rear hits the ground say "Good sit" and reward

Lay same thing but let him sniff and hold the treat to the ground when he drops good lay, reward

Come: never ever, ever, ever punish after you give a come command..Make coming to you a reward, petting treats, play time etc.

On all accounts after your pup knows that command start tapering off with the treats
You have to be firm but fair when the dog knows the command every time you give a command they MUST comply!!!!!!!!

Apbt' aren ot guard dogs! Nor are they human aggressive by nature. I've had them all my life and you could walk right in my house make yourself something to eat walk around the house. My dogs wouldnt even do anything but follow you and wag their tail. lol. Now if I was ever in a bad situation my apbt would protect me....PetSmart or Petco are not good training classes. Remember Apbt's are dog aggressive by nature so if your dog has never been socialized or should I say over socialized with dogs he's going to show out and act up in the presence of other dogs. Maybe you could look for trainers in your area offering private classes or a trainer that will come out to your home to show you how and work with you. Here some links hope it helps to find a trainer! :D http://nadoi.org/instructors.htm http://apdt.com/po/ts/us.asp

Good luck with your pit, remember if you decide you can't handle him anymore please give him to a pit bull rescue.
