I just got a pitbull pup that is about 11 weeks old. I've had him about 5 days so far, and he still acts the same way as the day I set him in the car to bring him home. At his birthsite (with other pups) he was very playful, cheerful and showed good personality, even came up to me when I called and licked me and tried to play/hump. Now ever since, he will not play with me or show any sign of excitement, UNLESS its with another dog (I have 2 labs that play with it all the time and he acts just like a normal happy pup). But at all other times, he's glum, does not move much and seems somewhat skittish towards humans. I'm not sure what age they should be learning their names or responding to me, but so far he acts very strange and the exact opposite of what my other dogs did as pups. Has anyone had similar problems/Think he will grow out of it?

Like I said, around other dogs he seems perfectly normal/very playful, but he does not have much interest in humans at all.

Any help will be appreciated, I'd like to keep him if he would grow out of it. I did not interact w/the parents much but seen them. As far as I could tell they are not very sociable dogs and didn't seem to like the idea of me (a stranger) being around, but did not bark or growl.

p.s
I initially thought the behavior may've been because of worms or another problem I recently noticed (pus-like something coming out of the penis), but if that were the case I would think his attitiude would carry over while socializing with other dogs as well (which it does not, at all)

Thanks alot for any insight

Take him to the Vet about the pus issue......It sounds to me like the people tha t you got him from did not socialize the puppies with humans. It sounds like a curable problem but I would just given him a little while to adjust..........But take hi to the Vet soon so you will know if it Temp. or illness

Pus coming from the penis is something to have looked at unless it is a lil greenish in collar then it is normal but if there is a lot and it is pussy looking then a vet trip is needed.Your pup may need time to adjust to his environment. He is still young and has only been with you for a few days. What I would do is hand feed him his meals, this way he knows you are his food source and it is great for bonding.Stick to the hand feeding for a few months, this will also help you when he gets bigger as you need to show and be the alpha dog
