What kind of 'bulldog' are you referring to?

English bulldogs run upwards of 2,000. This is because of the cost of whelping and weaning these pups. They are all born by C-Section, and most EB moms won't nurse, so 24 hour care must be given to the pups to get them to survive, and even then, their survival is iffy.

As far as the cost of an English bulldog, if you balk at the initial high price, you may not like the extremely high vet bills often that follow. You CAN get a pup from healthy bloodlines, but it takes research, and a premium price. EB pups from very healthy and proven healthy lines come at a premium price.

If you really don't care about the AKC status of the dog, look at Renascence Bulldogges, Old English Bulldogges, Valley Bulldogges, Boston Bulldogges... and there are others... Renascence and Old English are the most true to the "bulldogge" look. (no offense to owners of Valley or Bostons) These breeds are variations of the 'recreated' Bulldogge. Breeders took it upon themselves to breed a healthy, free whelping, free breathing Bulldogge, without all the issues of the English Bulldog.

Hope that helps some, and hope you find the pup of your dreams!

It's OK, I'm the same way with pit bulls.
