Its nice to hear Hudson is progessing well. Did you notice anything with his poo? I think I'll take photos and do a before and after look for my ab, I'm just waiting for my dog run kennel so I can feed him outside. So Hudson has been on a raw diet for two weeks now. Thought I'd include my .2c to date.
He was always a good weight and had nice muscle so no real big change there. Only in the last couple of days have I noticed his muscles become slightly more defined. His waist was always thin but I also notice it has tucked on the sides, and not just the bottom.
He still gets tears, has a bit of an inflamed chin and itchy but I always assumed these were seasonal related. Too early to tell.
His coat is beautiful as usualand the smell of his frito feet have changed slightly. Not worse at least!
The cons would have to be the inconvenience. Getting meat for a low cost, if you try. Making sure the meat is fresh... Hudson vomits if he eats anything too cold or hot. We can do only slightly frozen. The smell... It's been raining a lot so he us fed inside. I don't like the raw meat smell that lingers in my living room. This also means I disinfect his crate twice a day.
I am not completely sold on raw yet. The plan was to do it for a while, not a quick trial. When we're done we'll decide all raw, kibble or mixed.
I have to say my favorite part is seeing people's reaction when he tears into the meat outside. My husband jokes that they will think we are murderers to feed our beast haha.
Thanks for the report, Tina! I just started raw today for my ab. I started him on turkey. I just brought a 30# case of turkey neck for 13.50Hudson is starting to get pretty nice and muscular on his raw diet, and is shedding less. WOOOO! There wasn't much on the carnivore in my area. I did find one supplier who ships to about an hour from where I live. The prices aren't the best but I think we will just buy some from there and the rest will be the .40c/lb chick legs at the grocery store for now. We've been too busy lately for me to go ultimate bargain hunting.
Sorry to hear that raw feeding didn't work out with you, so far I am still hanging onSo it IS the chicken. He has been pooping out more bones, some are fairly thick and sharp. I think I am going to kick the raw diet. Maybe once we move and have settled and I get a good job there I will do the barf diet but right now I am not happy enough with raw, I don't want to think about how those bones can hurt him on the inside. The only benefit is smaller poop so far. I have noticed the other changes to be minimal. So with that I am only going to supplement his diet like I used to. If you can give me good advice not to I am open to it. I don't like what's in commercial dog food but I can afford prepared raw with good bones and ect. Sad. I was really hoping this would wok. Maybe we'll have better luck another time.
His Hudson swallowing and not chewing chicken bones up? Dude will get constipated if I give him too much bones; turkey neck and drumsticks. So it IS the chicken. When I first did raw with Murphy, he would chew a little and swallow it. He would have sharp chicken bones in his poop. I have been feeding raw chicken backs for the past 4 days with both the dogs and their poop is fine. So I'm hoping it stays that way and I can switch to 100% raw.
I'll pass, :laughing6:Tell my barfing husband lol
Mine sharing since I so close by you?Hot damn. Just scored ~100lbs of free beef from craigslist that a guy is trying to clean out of his fridge. Holla!!!!!
I didn't kill any porkypine yet. I went for a hike to look for wabbit for Dude, but found none and saw tons TONS of porkypine. I got my hunting license and everything, so I am all set. Porkypine in MN have no value nor limit, free for all. If its no good for dog to eat; when skin, I'll won't kill one. Porkypine are good to kill when you're out in survival situation. No don't kill the poor little porky-pine. I would imagine it would be hard to transport and skin one anyways. Don't hunters need tags to kill stuff?
