I own a rednose abot 5-6 months of age

Today i found out how strong he was when i went to my local animal shelter to get him vaccinated of rabies shot
i was so imbarrased that i got into and argument with and old racist bitch and her husband who were theyre getting theyre cats shots. we were arguing about the breed of my dog (a pit). he would not shut up he was trying to get off his leash and fight some huskys i think they were about his age. the old fat jigglypuf lookalike and her husband were saying "only ********,******* and white trash own them breed of dogs.(personally i a mexican/african American strongly disagree with her opinion) before we stopped arguing she said you just wait that dog is gonna kill somebody. i told her he aint gone kill noone but them dam cats u got in a minute if u dont shut that mouf. the people who ran th shelter had to step in and seperate me and her husband who were about to square off he was like 68 and i am 19 but i wouldve tooken that man to school again he was'nt ready for my 2 time black belt in taekwondoe skills. any ways i was really pissed tha i had the only loud dog theyre and that i could not shut him up even when i gave him treats.

i was wondering how do i train him basic commands like sit,up,stay

and how do i get him to respect me and to protect my house
i would definetly apprecite some help tips

Again pits do not make good watch dogs, and just as much as you don't like those sterotypes neither do we :shock: Please try not to use them on the board...I understand that you were not calling anyone here that but :shock: it could cause a huge fight on the board..

You have to learn how to have thick skin when owning this breed. You get alot of heat and all eyes are on you waiting for you and your dog to mess up! I'm a 19 yr old(white,black,native american,french, and german) women and can control my Apbt who is 20lbs least then I am. People are shocked and amazed that when another dog is barking at him I give him the command "ignore it" and he keeps walking. And I must tell u it feels damn good to prove them wrong!! lol. I've learned the quickest way to shut ignorant people up is to start throwing out facts(about apbt's) in a nice nasty way with a smile on my face. In no way should you be about ready to throw down in an animal shelter don't even bother argueing with people like that! B/c alot of the time they have absolutely no clue as to what they are talking about and only going by what they see on the news or hear from there cousins baby mom's friends newphew's little sister twice removed!

You have to establish that you are the "alpha" before he will respect you. Apbt's are NOT guard dogs! Please do not make him human aggressive or your asking for trouble. It's not in his nature to be that way. Now dog aggression is another subject havent quite yet mastered it with my German Shepherd to even let a dog that she doesnt know get within a couple of feet with her. But my Apbt knows I will NOT tolerant it! A dog barking directly in his face or coming toward him in an aggressive manner is another thing but to freak out whenever he sees another dog is something else. Have you considered taking him to obedience classes, or getting help from a proffesional trainer?? Also, if you stick around here you will get a ton of GREAT training tips, and info about the breed....there are a lot of really great, responsible pit owners here!!!
