BTW, welcome to the board. There's a few here that do protective training and IMHO, we need more.


I need to get off my butt and find a local club for our 9 month old. What's your take on when to start protective training? I hear conflicting stories.

Most of us here are pet owners but a few work their dogs like E Dogg said. I want to start working my girl soon. Shes 7 months.

Capone just turned 4 yrs old....Gigi just turned 3.....both are very fun dogs.

Capone & Gigi are "performance" bred...which mean NO modern day Johnson blood in their ped....they are both linebred off Bamaboy & dogs down from RodeHawg Kennels(Larry Koura)....

I have started my dogs very young....but having a good trainer & decoy is a must of the dog can be ruined....just keep it simple & fun.....really to much info to type....if you're not sure...don't!!!!....just wait.

My girl is a hybrid, half johnson, half hines. My biggest problem with getting her started doing any training was I didnt know where to start. I just met someone who is doing training so he can give me some help. He has this beautiful Blackchamps AB.

I live in Chicago....

been in the breed for about 8 yrs....own 2 other dogs....Cujo who's down from Jousha dogs(3x Cowboy) and Zena who is a hybrid out of Matias x Nikki...

I love the breed BUT would demand alot more folks tesing health & working temp before breeding..

That's my biggest gripe....people not being true to the breed & just peddling pups because THEY think the parents are beautiful.....this breed has been on the down slope for a while now......I'm not against people owning pets.....BUT just breeding pets is a whole nother story......this is a working breed!!!!.....plain & simple.......sorry for the rant.

I think you will find the majority of the people here share your views on breeding. I cant stand people who just take any dog and breed them. This goes for all dogs not just working dogs such as ABs. We had a guy on here today who wanted to buy a couple bulldogs and breed them. He never even owned one before. He didnt like that we didnt agree with his idea of breeding. He just wanted to buy a couple and hope to get some cash off the pups. Its very frustrating.

Welcome to the forum Troy!!! I am quite familiar with you and Capone from some of the other boards. In fact, I watched a bunch of videos you posted over on the JH board this morning. They were great, your boy sure can take the pressure! You will definitely be a welcome addition here, this breed and this fourm need more people like you. All I can say is WOW. Capone is a great dog and I love see him at work. The videos are great. I would love to get into something like that (my brother did with his GS) when I have a lot of time to devote to it. (kids must get older first). Welcome to the board too.
