Ok not sure what they are, got a vet visit this weekend for mason to look into if it's allergies or not for his itchy belly but right below his bottom lip on lower jaw he's got a bunch of little raised bumps that look filled with stuff in some cases... they dont look infected or bad almost looks like acne but on a dog.. do dogs get that that... well anyways it'll be there one moment then the next time I see him they are scabbed over like they ahd been bleeding because he scratched them..

My wife looked at one the other day and say it looked like something was coming out of it so she touched it and it sort of like popped like a pimple would..

Sounds gross but it's not that bad at all, just curious what it could be if I should be worried.. Im gonna switch mason to DVP to see how he does he loves the RC Bulldog formula but all these issues started when he swicthed to that..

Canine acne is a benign self-limiting disease of the chin and lips of young dogs. Short-coated dogs, such as boxers, bulldogs and rottweilers, are at increased risk for acne. The condition starts at puberty around 5 to 8 months of age. Most dogs improve with age and the condition typically resolves after one year of age.

The exact pathogenesis has not been established. Genetics, hormones and trauma have been hypothesized to play a role.

What to Watch For

Red bumps (papules) and blackheads (comedones) are usually noted on the chin and lips of young dogs. They may become infected and pus can be expressed from these lesions.


When infection is present itching may develop and the dog may start rubbing his face against carpet and furniture.

Diagnosis

A clinical diagnosis of acne is usually made considering the breed, the age of onset and appearance of the lesions. However, there are other diseases that may look similar to acne that need to be ruled out.


Demodicosis. This is a non-contagious type of mange, and it is important to do skin scrapings to rule out the possibility of demodicosis. Your veterinarian will scrape an area on the chin until there is some capillary bleeding and then examine the material under a light microscope.


Ringworm (dermatophytosis). This disease may also start with lesions resembling acne, so a fungal culture may be necessary. Hairs are plucked and submitted for culture, and results are available in 10 to 14 days.


Puppy strangles. This is another disease that could start with lesions similar to the those seen with acne. The main difference is that, animals with puppy strangles are depressed and anorexic (poor appetite), while dogs with acne are otherwise healthy.

Yes!! I had an english mastiff that was allergic to his plastic bowls. He would break out all around his mouth and chin. About a week after we switched to stainless steel, they cleared up.

He eats out of some sort of glass/porcelain/ceramic bowl set I bought from Petsmart...so maybe it could be that??

Hmm I can try switching him to stainless bowls.... Ill have to try a few things

Stainless steel is suppose to be the best. Everything else holds bacteria which is where I think the pimples come from.

I've noticed the same thing on my AB Mason. He first had it when we got him from the pound at 6mos. It went away after a week or so, but it came back after he went to the dog park for the first time last week. I'm wondering what you guys used to get rid of it. Is there a OTC topical solution that can keep his chin from drying out?

our dogs get them when we keep them in ther cages i think its from rubbing there face on the gate our one female gets them when she had pups it was from licking up pee and poop it will go away in about a day or so nothing to worry about
