i don't know if this is the right place to post this but what kind of shampoo is best for fending off fleas and ticks?

I dont know of any shampoo that is effective in defending against ticks. I suggest using Frontline Plus. We have a huge tick problem here living right on a big park and find Frontline to be the best.

I agree with kogeki . We use the frontline plus as well.Once a month topical.
We also have woods behind us and ticks get bad around here and this is the only thing I have found that works.Also prevents fleas.

For extra precaution, I use Deep Woods Off on Maxine and Jack. I spray my son, then turnaround and spray them. Lyme disease from deer ticks can be just as bad for dogs as for people.

I got Lyme disease in September. It is not a fun thing. Luckily it was diagnosed early. Some people need total knee and other joint replacements. I would be so upset if my dog got Lymes. My girlfriends old dog did but luckily recovered from it.

Molly has lyme.They rate it on a level at how bad it is 1 being not bad and 5 being the worst you can have and she is a 4.
She was diagnosed when we first got her.She gets her lyme shots(Buster just got his)but it still bothers and affects her in the winter.If we have her out running or walking she wont be able to move for a few days as her joints get really sore.So no more runing and what not in the winter.She wont recover from it cause of the severity of it but she does well otherwise.

I would be careful, make sure they don't lick that off. That can't be very healthy.
I use the Frontline plus, anything you get over the counter is crap.
I don't give the Lyme shots anymore. Lilly has gotten it even though she has been vaccinated, and I have heard the same thing from several other people. It can also have some really bad side effects.
I use Frontline and check my dogs daily.

Wouldn't you know the first time I forget the DW Off we come home with ticks on us. We went on Sunday afternoon. On Monday evening my husband found a black tick on his shin, and on Tuesday morning I found a red tick on my thigh. Painful! Thank goodness the dogs didn't go with us this time, it would have been a few more days before I would have noticed a tick on them.

I use frontline fortnightly. We have paralysis ticks here that can kill a dog quickly and I've never had a problem with my 2.
