Does anyone feed diamond lamb and rice? If so how do your dogs do on it?

There honestly aren't many options for grain free in that price range....TOTW has been priced much lower than other grain free foods.

Acana Wild Prairie might be one of the closest in price range, but it is mainly a poultry formula. It is made by the same company as Orijen and has a great reputation. Other grain free options will def be more expensive than TOTW
I found that Earthborne Holistic (made in Indiana, so I'm not sure of how far it reaches retail speaking) & NutriSource grain free are both in the price range of TOTW. Anyone have experience with either of these?! Thankfully NEITHER are made by Diamond.
The plot thickens :http://health.yahoo.net/news/s/nm/salmonella-linked-to-dog-food-sickens-at-least-14-people
Canidae is in the process of opening a plant, I bet they wish it was ready sooner. I believe this recall is going to be a huge one. The lesson here is to support the familly owned and operated food companies.
wow. We just switched to kirkland, the dogs have been on it for 2 bags now. just checked my date and code and we are in the clear. that's scary stuff.

Who are the family owned and operated companies? Thanks
Wellness is also getting ready to open a plant....also, probably wishing it was open sooner.

I agree; the family owned / independent pet food companies have a much better track record of few to none recalls...Fromm, Acana, Orijen, etc.

I will get a list together and post it, many of these companies are very happy right now. I will also get a list of companies that have never had recalls.

Or........ Know what I'm going to say?
Which brings us to the question of what is really safe? I read in an artice recently which quoted the CDC as saying that 45% of the raw diet fed to racing greyhounds had tested positive for salmonella.
Yea but dogs are capable of handling salmonella and not getting sick from it.
Those considering raw would have to have very good sanitation habits or it seems like they could have problems, correct?
I think Canidae was part of the recall... think I read an article on it this morning.
Here we go:

Well, to be perfectly honest, don't you prepare all sorts of raw meat for your family for dinner every day right there on the kitchen counter? Chicken and steak and what have you? Just spray some 409 down and wipe up after you're done. Outbreak contained.

Yea... I'm not as diligent as I could be. I disinfect countertops and wash my hands in between cutting and serving and what not. We don't prepare our food next to theirs. The basic stuff.

We feed Fromm, and have been for 3 years, my puggle does very well on the 4 star nutritional line. She has a soft, shiny coat and she never has problems with allergies, has good stools etc. My AB eats Fromm large breed puppy, I was in the process of switching him to Orijen when he decided to eat his dog bed and give himself a stomach obstruction requiring surgery so switching was put on hold. I will try again soon. He doesn't do as well on Fromm. He has random loose stools, and ear infection that won't go away, and some indications of skin allergies/redness. I am really anxious to try him on grain free and see if that helps him out. Anyway, I'd recommend Fromm to anyone looking to switch, doesn't seem to be working out for Eli but overall I think it's a great food.
All though I think raw is the best diet, many people are not comfortable feeding it. I empty my Natures Variety freezer every week so I'm going to purchase a larger one and I'm bringing in another local raw company. I stress to my customer to always clean the dog's bowl after a meal especially if they have toddlers. Our health board would like to phase it out but I'm sure there would be some very unhappy people. Even though the pre-made diets can be pricey, it makes it much easier for the pet owner and gives a dog/cat a properly balanced diet for those people that don't take the effort to educate themselves. To get back on topic, I hope this recall is over soon ;)

Isn't that what this recall is over....salmonella??
Looks like there is another recall....Solid Gold: Solid Gold Health Products for Pets - News
