I was told I should have kept Mason on puppy food until he is 2, but I was under impression that taking him off at 6 months was ok because a lot of the times puppy food makes them grow too fast due to the fatty materials in puppy food as well as the protein..

So whats every one else think? I might put him back on it if I f-ed up!!

the premium food doesnt have a "puppy food", it's all the same just
feed different amount for puppies (i know DVP only has one kind, no puppy, large breed, senior, etc.).
I changed Orson over before he was one year old, but i was ignorant and fed him Eukanuba puppy before finding premium food.

food can get tricky....

Some people believe that if you feed a high quality food, then there is no need to even feed puppy food at all. I think if you do the research and just pick what you think is right.

Take a look at this link. It may help you decide on what you are looking for. We have had nothing but total success with this brand.

i was feeding Baylee Eukanuba Puppy for at least 7 months until i read on here the Eukanuba sucks.... i then switched her to RC Bulldog and have had great success. I recently switched her to DVP to have a new flavor, but nothing but trouble. both dogs had gas ALL the time and the yard was FULL of poop.

RC Bulldog is the only way i go, for now at least

Regular puppy food (suitable for small and medium breeds) does have too much protein and fat, and can cause growth and development problems in a large breed. Most of the Large Breed puppy foods mention that in their literature, plus they have other additives specifically for large breed puppies. I know you can feed all stages and add the joint, brain, etc things separately. I feed Diamond Naturals Lg Breed puppy mixed with Nature's Variety (all life stages) for flavor enhancement.

How many dogs have grown up and lived long healthy lives on PurinaDogChow or PurinaPuppyChow before all these newer foods were developed, I'm sure plenty. I want my dog to like her food.
