I was not getting nasty. I really do not get it. We have a dog they are dogs we are people we make the rules with compassion and authority. I just do not get the head shrinker for dogs thing. Nothing nasty about it. Not to mention, kissy, kissy, kiss. I used to be a good kisser.

Used to be, eh? We can change that. I must commend you for being so confident for being so new.

Like I said before...I make the rules with compassion and authority, but I have an ass that is mocking and challenging me. I first go to a trainer (this is hypoethetical), then if it is something further (say aggression), I look to a behavior dude. I go throught all my choices prior to making the choice of putting him down. Me...PERSONALLY.

instead of the dog understanding command he doesn't think like a like a person ,the person thinks like a dog? is that the same as getting into the dogs mind? This is all way to new age for me. I gotta figure the dog learns what I teach it or not.Head shrinking dogs is far weirder than head shrinking humans. You guys trip me out.
All of my dogs understand commands and can perform them reliably. However, there is a WORLD of difference between Dylan and my other two, Bailey and Maverick. I was a young kid when I got my first two dogs and I definitely treated them like they were children and spoiled the living crap out of them. At the time, that is how I thought you treated dogs. WRONG!!! Bailey is the biggest nervous wreck around now. If I am home, he is sitting at my feet shaking and whining and shaking and whining. He HAS to have attention! Being that he is 13 years old now it is hard to break him of this...cause I feel guilty. There is no doubt in my mind that I never showed him his place in our pack and now he feels like he has to be the one running it. I wish I had known better at the time.

But then I look at Dylan. Who I have always looked at as a dog, treated as a dog, and I have made the effort to communicate with him so that he understands not only the commands I ask of him but what I want from him in daily life. The difference between the two is amazing. And, honestly, I am closer to Dylan than I have been to any other dog I have ever owned (but don't tell Bailey LOL).

I see no problem with spending the time and money it takes to learn how to communicate with your dog. And I think it is necessary in this case because this dog is now treeing the neighbor's daughter. To do nothing would be totally irresponsible!!

Thanks..All the adcive is great. But for myself and Baby I feel at this time with the new rules of the house, he is doing great. Since he was neutered he is calming down. Dogs do what comes naturally, they are not humans and should not be treated as though they are. Dogs can not reason, so as owner we MUST be their reason and let them know what they did was wrong.

I watch Baby's moods and keep my eyes on him when he is outside. But with the hot weather is only for walks.

Again thanks.....

I have never had to put an animal down. My APBT of 13 years , 13 years ago did not like black people. I had to about beat it out of her when my young sons best friend was black. But, it did not take some one else to figure out how to do that. She learned quick, 3 or 4 days.I find this forum filled with women that ain't like me. I personally do not "know" anything about this type of communication, but, I try cause I like my bulldog. And I respect you guys opinion even if I do not agree with it. You never know. People can change.Especially as they grow (age).

you beat it out of them interresting way of training

esplain to me the difference between a "good" trainer and a behavioralist?

i think it is, what, $20-30 an hour diff?
any trainer worth their salt understands how dogs think and why the do what they do. if they dont they certainly aren't a "good" trainer

Of Course Baby is tied when outside. As I have stated in other posts.
An by the way when you as an adult or a kid runs from a dog it will chase you given the chance. Most of the time they want to play. With girl he put up the tree, she knocked on MY door with her mother or I knowing she was coming over and my kids (6 & 7) opened the door before I got to it, she ran, Baby followed. And by the way the next door is 10 and knows we have the dog.
I welcome the advice but if my dog was attacking people or running loose then I would see I had a big problem, he is NOT. And again it goes back to the owner and what they are willing to do with the dog. REMEMBER THEY ARE DOGS NOT HUMANS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE Baby, but if the need ever comes up my husband or I will do what is necessary.
Everyone teaches and trains their animals different. Everyone also has his/her own opinions. Do what is BEST for you, your family, and your dog.
KEEP EVERYONE SAFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A canine behaviorist is NOT a doggy shrink. It is a person who has been trained to understand and evaluate canine behavior and help the owner understand why the animal behaves the way it does. Then they help the owner find ways to help the dog learn what is expected of it. If you dont understand something, instead of mocking it, you could try to educate yourself. That IS what the internet is for. Very useful tool

There is one thing I understand now, that I did not before you guys have more money than.............................me.
That's a problem, why? What does someones income or lack there of have to do with this? Why is it that you think that you're so important that you have a say as to how others spend their money?

Definitely misunderstood your first post then. I thought you had interpreted his behavior as aggression.

I'm gonna go ahead and call NOT TRUE on this one. There are people from all different financial backgrounds here.
And, lack of money is no excuse for no self-education.

To forever_pit....Thanks for all the advice...You can never have to much knowledge about your pet.....Its always good to ask questions and see what other owners do. You never know, something someone else has done just might work for you.
Also your pit is a cutie........
